Australia's spirits tax has risen to $110.15 per litre of pure alcohol following the federal government's biannual indexation update. This marks the 79th alcohol excise increase since automatic twice-yearly indexation was introduced in 1983. The hike has pushed Australia’s spirits tax to the highest in the world outside of Scandinavia, stoking major industry concerns that a rapidly growing, dangerous black market is taking root.
