***NEWS UPDATE*** U.S. DISTILLED SPIRITS SALES OUTPACE BEER & WINE FOR FIRST TIME The Distilled Spirits Council just wrapped up its annual economic briefing with some interesting news. For the first time, the market share for distilled spirits sales in the U.S. moved ahead of both beer and wine at 42.1% compared to 41.9% for beer. Overall spirits sales rose by 5.1% during 2022 over 2021, led by strong showings for tequila (+11.5%), Bourbon and other American whiskies (+5.2%), and Irish Whiskey (+4.4%). Blended Scotch sales held steady with a 0.6% increase over 2021, while overall single malt Scotch sales declined by 2.8% (sales of "super-premium" single malts increased by 9%, though). Canadian Whisky sales were off by 4.1%.
