Still at LOST in Saigon, Vietnam. Moving on from a cocktail to a bourbon “on the rocks”, a Wild Turkey 101 8YO. I hardly consume bourbon and must say I am a noob in its appreciation. On the nose, all I get is an overpowering smell of vanilla. Difficult to discern anything else. Flavour wise, I’m a little surprised it’s less sweet I expected it to be. Some caramel and light hints of cinnamon. The tannin from the wood seems quite strong. Surprisingly, I get a hint of sourness. The spice notes from the Rye also seem quite distinct. Finish… fairly long and sadly, it’s the bitterness from the wood tannins that seem to linger longest. Well… what do I know but don’t think I am ordering this again. 😝🤣
