Latest wee dram… A Berry Bros & Rudd Small Batch release of Caol Ila. Distilled 2011 and bottled 2023. Batch 4, 1 of 894 bottles. 46% ABV | NCF | Natural Colour Have attached the BBR tasting notes but for myself, it was a strange sip. The nose was your typical lemon & burnt ash Caol Ila signature whiffs. The taste was overwhelmingly familiar to me but not for any of the official tasting note flavours. It had a very strong flavour of “ginseng”! I’ve always found Caol Ila expressions to have a strong lemon and ash taste and this was no different. Enjoyed the flavours. Sadly the finish developed little then just disappeared in a flash. Rather disappointing. Enjoyable enough but not an expression I would buy another bottle of.
