My Burn’s night dram was in fact a day time tasting of Gordon & Macphail’s Discovery Series bottlings of Miltonduff (10YO) and Glenrothes (11YO) the morning after. My thoughts: The Miltonduff was generally the better drink. A lovely nose of palm sugar and stewed fruit. On the taste, it brought to mind a mixed fruit smoothie and notes of burnt raisins. Perhaps with a little emphasis on the “burnt”. There was a bitter bite with each sip. I then added some water - mistake! The flavour was completely washed away by the addition of water leaving a bitterness from the tannins. The Glenrothes was a simpler drink. A little more “sherry forward” too. The nose once again had a fragrance of palm sugar but also hints of paint thinner. On the palate; some raisins, chocolate, and cinnamon spice. Seems to hold up better than the Miltonduff with the addition of water. Just my $0.02
