Had a great experience in Japan last November. Think I stumbled onto one of the best Small Whisky Bars in Japan - yes, all of JAPAN! “Bar D” in Enoshima has an excellent collection of old single malts and Takashi-san, the owner is an absolute artist. Very knowledgeable on his whiskies too. Best of all, prices are reasonable. I spent RM450 (US$110/S$140/£82) for 4 great drams (they were rather small drams, likely 25ml pours). 1) An undeclared 7YO Lagavulin bottled for Bar Shinanoya of Tokyo 2) an 18YO Glendronach 1991 vintage 3) A 38YO Gordon & Phail bottled 1st fill Sherried Miltonduff distilled in 1969 4) A 12YO Dalmore Pure Malt bottled in 1970. All were good with the Glendronach being the star of the night. Yes, even beating the 38YO Miltonduff.
