Tonight I am tasting the next release from Torabhaig as they continue to mature towards their ten year goal. Sipping time! Torabhaig Sound of Sleat 92 Proof (55-ish) Nose: The smoke is rich with heavy phenols, but also with a sweet barley sugar aroma. Touch of roasted pears and honeydew. The smoke is more soot but it becomes less severe after a few minutes in the glass. Taste: There’s a quick barley sweetness, then the alcohol burn is like cinnamon and mint, and then the smoke rises. This is brine and soot and not for the scotch beginner. There is a touch of honey and caramel and even a little bourbon note. The finish is a little briny, soot and sweet. A few drops of water is ok, but a splash of water makes this a barley sweet dream. There’s no mistake here- this is a smoky dram. If you’re ready to take your scotch journey to the next level, Torabhaig is a great place to follow along with their journey. My grade: B+ Cheers!
