The Single Malt Society of Madison’s November meeting last night was a tasting of European whiskies. Apropos of last week’s episode, the clear winner of the night was Raw (NAS) from Copenhagen Distilling, a Danish whisky made from Danish grain. The Hungarian oak finish imparts a sophisticated sharpness to the flavors. Beyond specific tasting notes, this tasted like it could pass for a Scottish single malt distillery exclusive. The only demerit is the cube bottle with a short neck, which makes it hard to hold, even harder to pour. Visually distinctive for shelf presence, but the worst bottle design I’ve ever encountered for pouring. That said, it’s a truly elite world whisky.
