Deviating a bit from whisky … Picked up this 45 year old Cognac from closed Charpentier distillery to celebrate my 45th birthday. This was a truly unique spirit and on of the most complex spirits I’ve ever tasted. Floral, sweet citrus and herbaceous. But it drank hot for 61% and the floral notes over powered the underlying sweet cognac notes. Over all it was a solid dram and gets a 7/10. Value is trickier. Good news is that I “only” paid €180 for this bottle which for a 7/10 dram earns it a slightly below average 4/10. On the other hand I got a 45 year old liquid for less than $200 which would argue for a 10/10. But try to find this one again and I’m sure the price will be >>$200 which argues for <2/10 on the value scale. Would I buy it again for $200? Yes, unless the shop has something equally unique for a
