The distiller who made the first American Single Malt whiskey has died. Steve McCarthy founded Clear Creek Distillery in Oregon in 1985 and sourced peated malt from Scotland to make McCarthy's Single Malt Whiskey. He retired in 2014 and sold the distillery to Hood River Distillers, but remained active with the distillers there until his passing this week at the age of 76. McCarthy's is still available today, and I'll be pouring a dram of it tonight in his memory.
