Picked up this bottle from a Last mountain distillery. The brand is going with a Nordic theme which includes a carved stone and a carving on the cork which is a nice touch. If this product was made in the US it would be a high rye bourbon. The label they used is nice to show exactly what is in the bottle. 6 years old 68% corn 11% barley and 21% rye. ABV: 49.5 They are doing small batches with this batch having only 266 bottle. However none of the above matters if what is in the bottle is no good. I figured the best way to test it was to go head to head against another high rye bourbon. Now my selection is limited as in I have one to choose from and that is Rabbit Hole Heigold which is 70% corn, 25% malted rye, and 5% malted barley and comes in at 47.5% ABV but is younger with no age statement just says older then 3 years. The results. Giving the Baldur's to any bourbon drinker and they will say it is a high rye bourbon. Both these whiskies are solid and very different. Rabbit hole is more subtle and the rye is tame. I find the overall flavour is good but gentle compared to Baldur's. Baldur's the rye and oak really come through. The start is all oak with white pepper kicking in right after and the spice stays the entire way. On the second sip the oak has less kick but the spice stays. I would say if you are looking for something different and enjoy bourbon but also are a fan of rye with a kick you will like Baldur's release #3. For price Baldur's is $80 plus tax which is not bad for what is in the bottle and for what higher end bourbon's in Canada cost $80 is on the lower side. Rabbit hole Heigold in Canada comes in at $100 for comparison.
