Happy Friday eve! Been raining all day, so naturally, I had to open a bottle of whisky to brighten the day. My whisky journey started around 1997 with a bottle of Laphroaig 10; not the wisest thing back then. Now, I would drink Laphroaig 10 CS all day, every day - love that juice. Since I still seem to make questionable decisions, today, I dove into my first Fettercairn at cask strength. Was it wise? Don't know and don't care. But I am glad I tried it as I have been avoiding Fettercairn for years. Enough of the diatribe... Fettercairn 17 year (1995/2013) 57.1% ABV Bottled by Creative Whisky for K&L Wine Merchants. Nose: Sweet peach/pineapple, lemon zest, dusty, musky stewed fruit, slight furniture polish, slight nose prickle. Water seems to amp up the dusty character. Palate: Rush of sweet sugar, followed by swelling spice mid-palate and trailing off to finish. Lip-coating. Water tones down the spice quite a bit and amps up the initial rush of sweet sugar. Finish: Lingering. Is that Kentucky hug? Nose prickle and Kentucky hug aside, drinks lowers than 57.1%. I'm looking forward to getting to know this bottle. Cheers everyone!
