@cedarridgeiowa out-sells all other brands (including the big ones) in Iowa. This means something. They know whiskey. Their American Single Malt is turning heads because they are also a winery and they use their old wine barrels to age their ASM. They also are experimenting with different cask varieties to finish, and the gang from @malloysglenellyn picked a barrel finished in an Añejo barrel. I’m ready - are you? Cedar Ridge Quintessential American Single Malt finished in Añejo casks. 122.6 Proof (70-ish) Nose: Brown sugar, subtle smoke, lots of lemon peel, some oak, some peaches, some bananas, a little agave and a little malty bread aromas. Taste: The palate starts with a good malty bread and baked goods note, some aged agave flavors that then rolls into fruits like apricot and peach with ginger spice, and a finish that is chili pepper and loads of lemon. It’s a little hot - some water brings out a nectarine note and some nice Añejo caramels. This is an excellent whiskey, but it is not for everyone. If you want something different, try this. If you’re into American Single Malt or unique (almost funky) agave flavors, try this. If you’re looking for basic bourbon sweetness, you might want to stick with your Blanton’s. Save this for me. My Grade: A- Cheers!
