What do you do with whiskies you don’t like? The Scoresby was a gift, I really don’t like it but I can’t bring myself to dump it. I try to blend them together to make something that is better than the sum of the parts. In this case, the last of my Old Elk and a little Scoresby does the job. The Scoresby itself is young and malty, tropical/overripe fruits, a hint of smoke, and some off putting astringency. The Old Elk is good but leans a bit to the syrupy side. Combine them and the Scoresby cuts the syrup of the Old Elk and adds a bit of smoke, and the bourbon sweetness of the Old Elk covers the overripe fruits. I like the new blend more than either of the components!
