Buffalo Trace Distillery will be closed to staff and visitors until at least Thursday because of extensive flooding. The distillery sits on the banks of the Kentucky River, which has swollen beyond its banks after several days of heavy rain. Buffalo Trace owner Sazerac issued the following statement: “The State of Kentucky and the Frankfort area, where Buffalo Trace Distillery resides, have seen historic levels of rain this week resulting in severe floods and weather-related emergencies. As of today, Buffalo Trace Distillery is closed and will not be accessible to either consumers or team members. We will be closed through Thursday, April 10th at a minimum. As this is a rapidly unfolding situation, visits may be impacted beyond that time and we will continue to provide updates as they are available. Due to the unprecedented and ongoing rain and flooding, we are not able to advise on the impact to our total distillery footprint. We will assess those realities in the coming days as the facilities become safe to navigate and will make necessary adjustments to operations as required.” In addition, Maker’s Mark Distillery is closed today because of the weather. The extent of flood damage there is not known. MB Roland Distillery is also flooded and closed, along with Balance Distillery in Western Kentucky, where the main road to the distillery is flooded. Also, the Kentucky Distillers Association has had to evacuate its offices in Frankfort, which are located in a low-lying area between the Kentucky River and the State Capitol building. We’ll update this with more details as they’re available.
