A Highland distiller transfers their matured single malt whisky from a bourbon cask to a virgin American oak cask for finishing. Then, a curious American pours some of that whisky into his glass to check on the result. It’s the Deanston Virgin Oak release. I’m talking brown sugar and apple sauce, combined with cherries and lemons, but there’s also something unmistakingly harsh lurking around, too.
