Question: Does anyone know where Bulleit’s American Single Malt was distilled? My assumption is always that if the distiller is coy about distilling location, as Bulleit is about this, or if the label says “Bottled in Kentucky,” as this does, it’s probably Indiana juice from MGP. (Which is most often excellent!) I’m bringing this bottle to share at an ASM tasting tonight, and I’d love to be certain where it originated. As for notes, I’m not a fan. It’s got strong dusty and sweet flavors that don’t sit in balance; it’s like instead of fresh pear flesh, the taste leans toward old apricot skin. I’d take it over the cheapest blended Scotch, but to my palette it mostly serves to validate ASM’s potential as a category. It’s a miss, but it doesn’t miss by much.
