Interesting to read in Allen Andrews - The Whisky Barons (1977), that Peter Mackie of Lagavulin, Craigellachie and White Horse fame had realised the importance of “extravagant and persistent advertising.” And even back in those years of the industry, they have tricks or self interest from the “caterers” thinking of their profit, over quality of spirit they can offer to the consumer.
