A few years ago, my favorite regular expression from my favorite distiller was an $80 bottle. NAS. Today, it’s more often a $120 bottle. Meanwhile the same distillery has added a very young age statement expression that’s about one-third the price. Is my favorite regular expression three times as good as the cheap young expression? No! It’s better, but not by a factor of three. So if both bottles are in stock, I never pick the more expensive bottle. If the young bottle is available at $45, why would I pay the extra $75 for at most $20 worth of added quality? The young whisky isn’t as excellent, but it’s still quite good.
